Welcome to Serbia and Novi Sad

A Place Where Ideas Grow, Cultures Connect, and Innovation Thrives

Serbia – A Land of Talent, Heritage, and Global Recognition
At the heart of Southeast Europe lies Serbia, a country where centuries of tradition meet cutting-edge innovation. Known for its rich history, natural beauty, and warm hospitality, Serbia is a cultural crossroads - where East meets West, and where the past and future coexist in harmony.

Despite its modest size, Serbia has produced some of the world’s most influential minds and talents across science, sports, arts, and innovation:

  • Nikola Tesla – Visionary inventor and pioneer of electricity and wireless communication, whose legacy continues to power the modern world.
  • Mihajlo Pupin – Renowned physicist and inventor in telecommunications and X-ray technology, a professor at Columbia University and a scientific advisor in the U.S.
  • Milutin Milanković was famous Serbian scientist best known for developing the theory of ice ages based on long-term changes in Earth’s orbit and climate, now called the Milankovitch cycles.
  • Novak Djokovic – Global tennis icon and 24-time Grand Slam champion, admired not only for his athleticism but for his leadership and humanitarian work.
  • Nikola Jokić – NBA champion, Finals MVP, and multiple-time NBA MVP, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation, continuing Serbia’s world-class basketball legacy alongside modern stars like Vlade Divac (LA Lakers, Sacramento Kings), Peđa Stojakovic (LA Lakers, Sacramento Kings), Bogdan Bogdanović (Atlanta Hawks) and many many more.
  • Nemanja Vidić (Manchester United), and oters famous world-class famous footbal player including legendary defenders like Branislav Ivanović (Chelsea), Aleksandar Kolarov (Manchester City, AS Roma), and the iconic Siniša Mihajlović (Lazio and Inter Milan), renowned for his incredible free kicks and coaching career, and many more.
  • Ivo Andrić – Nobel Prize-winning author whose works have left a lasting impact on world literature.
  • Emir Kusturica – Internationally acclaimed filmmaker, two-time Palme d’Or winner.

Serbia is a place of incredible contrasts - where Roman ruins lie near modern tech parks, where folk songs echo alongside contemporary jazz, and where the drive for progress is rooted in a deep sense of cultural pride. Throughout history, Serbia has stood at the crossroads of civilizations. In Roman times, it was part of the mighty province of Moesia, and the birthplace of no fewer than 17 Roman emperors, including Constantine the Great, who famously legalized Christianity across the Roman Empire (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Constantine-I-Roman-emperor). Echoes of this imperial past remain visible in archaeological sites like Sirmium, Felix Romuliana (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Viminacium, which today attract historians and travelers from around the world.

Nearby Sremski Karlovci, just outside of Novi Sad, holds another moment of world significance - it was here, in 1699, that the Treaty of Karlowitz was signed (https://www.britannica.com/event/Treaty-of-Carlowitz), marking the end of the Great Turkish War and reshaping the map of Europe. The peace talks introduced a new diplomatic tradition: the round table, ensuring that all parties sat as equals - a symbol of dialogue and diplomacy that still resonates today.

Novi Sad is a European City of Culture, Sport, and Innovation
As you journey north, you enter Vojvodina, an autonomous province of Serbia known for its open plains, multicultural communities, and unique blend of languages, religions and traditions. With over 25 ethnic groups and six official languages, Vojvodina stands as a living example of coexistence, tolerance, and regional pride. At the heart of Vojvodina lies its crown jewel: Novi Sad.

Located just 78 kilometers from Belgrade, on the banks of the Danube River, Novi Sad is Serbia’s second-largest city and one of its fastest-growing centers of innovation and education.

Recognized as the European Capital of Culture in 2022 and named European City of Sport for 2026 by ACES Europe, Novi Sad has become a symbol of progress, inclusion, and creative energy.

With more than 50,000 university students, the city is a vibrant academic hub, home to the University of Novi Sad, a major center of science, research, and international collaboration.

Each summer, the city pulses with energy during the world-renowned EXIT Festival, held at the historic Petrovaradin Fortress — one of the largest music festivals in Europe, attracting global artists and audiences.

Novi Sad has proudly produced many internationally recognized individuals who continue to elevate its name across the world:

As one of Europe’s emerging IT and startup cities, Novi Sad is increasingly known for its tech community, innovation parks, and digital creativity, making it the perfect host for international conferences and knowledge exchange.
